Racial Ethnic Groups in the United States

Indeed, even in 2013 prejudice and ethic contrasts are a battle in the United States. This is chiefly because of the way that not at all like fifty years prior when the nation was part simply highly contrasting, there are currently more races included. In all actuality, the ages currently are considerably more educated about the ethic contrasts, most don’t see any mischief in an individual made a decision about dependent on their skin shading. Be that as it may, the individuals who do in any case think that its an issue have taken it to the extraordinary to leave their suppositions alone known.Take for example in week five’s perusing; the detest that was double-crossed against Asian Americans in the radio show where more than two dozen Asian Americans were genuinely harmed, thirteen of which needed to go to the medical clinic in light of the fact that their African American schoolmates chose to battle. Anyway that isn't the most exceedingly terrible piece of that circum stance. Rather than the security watchmen and educators planning something for stop the despise, they let it proceed. What's more, this is in each race. Numerous individuals in today’s day and age will in general pick more on the Latino gatherings of America. This is chiefly because of the way that a great deal of them are not in the United States lawfully. Remembered for these races are individuals of Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Venezuelan legacy. The principle explanation behind a large number of these migrants to go to the United States is to get a superior life. Yet, with this movement primarily neglect to absorb appropriately to their nearby neighborhoods to live the American way. By absorbing in the United States one can receive the social characteristics and additionally personality of the host gathering, Americans, as well as coordinate into the essential systems and optional associations of the host group. (Feagin and Feagin)While coming into the nation wrongfully th e Latino race consequently places an awful preference for most American’s mouths in light of the fact that on them coming into the nation without appropriate desk work, they remove occupations that could be utilized for different Americans just on the grounds that Latinos are known for taking a lower pay so they might be paid in real money sections check dependent on the basic actuality that they don't have legitimate documentation to be working in the United States. As indicated by Milton Gordon, creator of the compelling Assimilation in American Life, there are numerous issues with assimilation. This however included chiefly European gatherings coming into the United States that they were not ready to change in accordance with the living styles of another nation. This being the fundamental issue of workers is that they won't forego racial distinction to fit into the nation. Gordon proposed that this will be the primary issue with America later on. (Page: 31, Racial and Ethni c Relations Census Update, Ninth Edition, 9E by Clairece Booher R Feagin and Joe R. Feagin, Pearson) This obviously isn't the situation with all Latinos though. There are numerous individuals of these races that live in the United States legitimately that are persevering and need to the appropriately the American way. These are the sort of individuals however that wind up getting left in the residue on the grounds that very few understand that a few people need to be a piece of the nation to that expand. These Latin Americans have completely appreciated the idea of cultural assimilation, or social absorption, which is the difference in one group’s significant social examples to those of the host or prevailing gathering. (Feagin and Feagin) This doesn’t mean however that Latin Americans, or any race, need to surrender their whole social habits. It basically implies that they comprehend that they came into an alternate nation and they regard the way that a few things socia lly are done another way. For example there were numerous circumstances raised in the video on an hour in regards to the American Canal. Americans consider that to be as a water hotspot for their vegetables in the winter, anyway those from Mexico consider it to be a hazardous route into the United States. This is obviously an issue between the two races in light of the fact that the Americans don’t feel they have to change the safetyâ of the channel with the goal that Mexicans don’t keep on continuing suffocating in the water in endeavors to get into the nation illegally.Asian Americans have an immense weight on them simply like the Latino races yet it’s not as much as being considered â€Å"illegal†. Their weight is a greater amount of an instructive standpoint. They are relied upon to exceed expectations in school and get incredible evaluations at high training at the best universities. A portion of this plays into their advantage however considering t he existence they will have the option to live by better teaching themselves. They are constrained with these desires through their own families however too.For occurrence it is accepted that if a Caucasian American meets an Asian American while they are at school, for example, school, it might be expected that the Asian American is acceptable at math. It probably won't be verbally stated, yet as Americans that is a characteristic that Asian Americans have consistently had. This is a characteristic however that doesn't , and ought not, be surrendered with attempting to fit into the American lifestyle. In the event that anything a quality like this solitary upgrades living in America. Take for example the breakdown of instructions in America.Asian-Indian Americans lead the nation with regards to acquiring a Bachelor’s certificate from school with 70.1%, Chinese Americans follow with 52. 1%; Filipino Americans 48%, Vietnamese Americans at 27. 8%, Asian-Indian Americans with 70. 1%, and White Americans with 30. 7%. (Page: 338, Racial and Ethnic Relations Census Update, Ninth Edition, 9E by Clairece Booher R Feagin and Joe R. Feagin, Pearson) Even as indicated by Gordon, the change of Asian Americans into the United States society is significantly simpler that different races and it has a ton to do with their capacity to need to learn and help their way of life and individuals as well as the general public of individuals where they encompass themselves.According to the examination done in the Feagin and Feagin content the measure of Asian understudies applying as well as getting conceded into school is expanding each year. An examination shows that in 1979 2. 6 percent of understudies conceded into Brown University were of Asian plunge. In 1993 be that as it may, it hopped to 14. 8 percent of the understudies acknowledged. Numerous specialists however, for example, James Madore of the Christian Science Monitor mark Asian Americans as â€Å"model minorities †. Anyway they despite everything have their troubles. For occasion the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) contended with U. S. Incomparable Court candidate Clarence Thomas for his utilization of the term â€Å"model minority† while depicting Asian Americans. Thomas contended that Asian Americans â€Å"transcended the desolates caused even by unforgiving legitimate and social discrimination† and ought not be recipients of government governmental policy regarding minorities in society since they are â€Å"overrepresented in key foundations. † (Page339: , Racial and Ethnic Relations Census Update, Ninth Edition, 9E by Clairece Booher R Feagin and Joe R. Feagin, Pearson)The term â€Å"model minority† can be taken as a positive or negative quality as clarified in the above sections it is every one of the a matter of who is stating it and in what setting they are utilizing the title. In any case, it communicates the way that Asian Americans despite everything face hard results in the United States dependent on absorption and cultural assimilation on the grounds that despite the fact that a portion of their qualities from their own legacy are advantageous to Americans, Americans at that point feel insulted that somebody is coming into the nation attempting to assume control over schools and education. It is difficult to be a foreigner in the United States and that is comprehended by many individuals in the nation. And yet Americans need to keep their notoriety of living the American dream with astounding occupations and families that affection and bolster each other with the option to stand up for what they have faith in and the will to seek after their fantasies in whatever they wish. It is the a few gatherings of Americans that have threw in the towel to the workers of the nation and have been put down by thoseâ assimilating into the United States. It is these Americans that make the despise in the nation aga inst whole races sections people. It is the absence of instruction on Americans that has into impact of the dissatisfaction of the nation. Nobody sees those attempting to do things the right way yet that might be on the grounds that there are such a large number of settlers in the nation that are unlawful and exploit the way that they don’t need to effectively remain in the nation. However, this isn't â€Å"Living the American Dream†.Immigrants that are exploiting any state’s help, or not consenting to record appropriate documentation to turn into a resident to get a check rather than a lower pay yet being paid in real money are an immense piece of the issue. Assessments play into this the same amount of. Foreigners to America are not dumb. America charges everything and everybody is required to pay them. Not every person does however. Having numerous different races enter the nation these days provides those of this age some insight into what happened numerous years prior when whites and blacks were requested to remain separated. There are still pieces of the nation that blacks are not invited and they are oppressed. It is as though no laws were toppled. Today there are still around eleven states in the nation without a road devoted to Martin Luther King Junior, and a few states state they don't anticipate remembering that road for the maps at any point in the near future. With racial issues quite often a fight it is practically close to difficult to state that everybody one day will be completely upbeat and made equivalent. The fight between White Americans against Asian Americans against Latino Americans and African Americans is by all accounts a ceaseless battle. In his examination, Gordon accept that â€Å"the combination of African Americans into the center economy and society is well under way†. It is characterized by symptoms that include grandiosity, an exaggerated sense of self-importance, and a lack of empathy for others. Like other types of personality disorders, narcissistic personality disorder involves a longer-term pattern of behaviors and thoughts that cause problems in multiple life areas, including work, family, and friendships. An estimated one percent of adults are thought to have NPD,??? although many romantic partners, parents, children, family members, co-workers, and friends are thought to be directly affected by this disorder as well. Uncovering the Origins of Narcissistic Personality Disorder While the concept of narcissism dates back thousands of years, narcissistic personality disorder only became a recognized illness within the last 50 years. In order to better understand how psychologists and researchers view NPD, it is essential to take a closer look at how this personality disorder came to be. Freud and Psychoanalytic View of Narcissism Narcissistic personality disorder has its earliest roots in ancient Greek mythology. According to the myth, Narcissus was a handsome and proud young man. Upon seeing his reflection on the water for the first time, he became so enamored that he could not stop gazing at his own image. He remained at the waters edge until he eventually wasted to death. The concept of excessive self-admiration has also been explored by various philosophers and thinkers throughout history. In the past, the idea was known as hubris, a state of extreme arrogance and haughtiness that often involves being out of touch with reality. It wasnt until fairly recently that the notion of narcissism as a disorder became a subject of scientific interest in the field of psychology. During the early 1900s, the topic of narcissism started to attract interest in the growing school of thought known as psychoanalysis. Austrian psychoanalyst Otto Rank published one of the earliest descriptions of narcissism in 1911, in which he connected it to self-admiration and vanity. In 1914, the famous Sigmund Freud published a paper  titled,  On Narcissism: An Introduction. Freud proposed a rather complicated set of ideas in which he suggested that narcissism is connected to whether ones libido (energy that lies behind each persons survival instincts) is directed inward toward ones self, or outward toward others. He felt that infants directed all of the libido inward, a state he referred to as primary narcissism. In Freuds model, there was a fixed amount of this energy, and to the degree this libido was directed outward toward attachment to others, it would diminish the amount available to ones self. By giving away this love, Freud suggested that people experienced diminished primary narcissism, and in order to replenish this capacity, he believed that receiving love and affection in the world in return was vital to maintaining a sense of satisfaction.   In addition, in Freuds theory of personality, a persons sense of himself develops as a child interacts with the outside world and begins to learn social norms and cultural expectations leading to the development of an ego ideal, or a perfect image of oneself that the ego strives to attain. Another important part of Freuds theory is the idea that this love of ones self could be transferred to another person or object. By giving away love, Freud suggested that people experienced diminished primary narcissism, leaving them less able to nurture, protect, and defend themselves. In order to replenish this capacity, he believed that receiving love and affection in return was vital. The Recognition of Narcissism as a Disorder During the 1950s and 1960s, psychoanalysts Otto Kernberg and Heinz Kohut helped spark more interest in narcissism. In 1967, Kernberg described narcissistic personality structure. He developed a theory of narcissism that suggested three major types: normal adult narcissism, normal infantile narcissism, and pathological narcissism that can be of different types.   In 1968, Kohut came to a different understanding of  narcissistic personality disorder and went on to take some of Freuds earlier ideas about narcissism and expand upon them. Narcissism played an important role in Kohuts theory of self-psychology, which suggested that narcissism was a normal and essential aspect of development and that difficulties with early self-object relationships could lead to challenges in maintaining an adequate sense of self-esteem later in life, contributing to narcissistic disorders.     In 1980, narcissistic personality disorder was officially recognized in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder and criteria were established for its diagnosis. There was some debate about how to deal with personality disorders in the recent DSM-5, but narcissistic and other personality disorders remain relatively unchanged in their diagnostic criteria from the previous edition.     What to Know About Narcissistic Personality Disorder

This system is advantageous in that, it is faster, reliable and less tasking. We will write a custom essay sample on In what circumstances is it appropriate to decentralise decision making? or any similar topic only for you Order Now While it is still used in majority of organizaions, most organizations are shifting to the decentralised method and therefore are involving different levels of management in the decision making process. This system is ideal in a number of situations as explained below. Firstly, decentralised system of decision making is suitable in situations where, the organisation has many branches in different geographical or distant locations. This is usually necessitated by the fact that, there arise emergency situations whereby key and quick decisions have to be arrived at and therefore contacting the central decision making authority within a short period of time is out of question question. Secondly, decentralised decision making process is preferred when an organisation is experiencing major staff turnover and their fore lack of key management staff through sackings or retires or any other natural attrition method warrants decisions to be made irregardless. Thirdly, decentralised decision making process is ideal whereby, key decisions are being made at departmental levels such as in production department. PAGE 2: Organisational culture can present difficulties for management initiated change programmes? Discuss Organisational culture refers to the employee – employer relations which shape how the two parties interact and intermingle at the work place. Also, organisational culture can be shaped by, employee backgrounds, external factors as well as the level of support accorded to the employees by the organization staff. Usually there are two common types of organisational cultures namely, positive and negative culture. The first one affects management initiated programmes in that, employees experiencing this kind of culture are more likely to accept any changes in the organisation as usually there is a good blood between the two parties which therefore translates into a strong trust, and mutual understanding. In such an environment, any changes coming from the management whether good or bad are welcomed without any queries and are looked at as being beneficial to the employees. This in turn leads to failure of pragrammes initiated by the management in that, as long as the staff who are tasked with project implementing do not question anything in terms of abnormalities and even if there are clearly missing facts, this is never realized until it is too late therefore causing programme failure. On the other hand an organization culture which is negative leads to customers shunning away so that, any well meant programmes will be fail to take off since, negative publicity which the employees can advance in the process of interacting with the different stake holders also does have a bearing on the outcome of the projects. Lastly, organizational culture determines output in workers in that, a negative attitude amongst employees is more likely to lead to low output in that, it is highly correlated with low morale and therefore productivity. PAGE 3: Discuss why managerial authority is so important to our understanding of organisations and how this power has to be legitimised not just by individual workers but by the organisations culture. Failure to appreciate managerial authority stems form a negative culture which in stead of pestering a mutual understanding between workers and employers causes tensions and misunderstandings in an organization. Usually, for the organisation to meet its goals and objectives the management has to execute its duties well just as stipulated in functions of management. This involves carrying out duties and responsibilities which must be commensurate with the corresponding authority. In situations whereby managers are allocated duties and responsibilities without proper and clear cut, authority to accompany it, the management becomes ineffective and this contributes to failure of many organizations. Therefore, there is a need for decision makers while allocating managers duties to weigh the responsibilities and duties assigned to employees versus the authority and power required to execute the roles and responsibilities effectively. To achieve the above, management should work towards having and inculcating in the organization, the right culture. This can be achieved (if it is lacking), through the launching of strategic plans which could incorporate vision and mission statements, core values of the organization as well as the social responsibility statement of the organization. All the above are necessary in ensuring that, the organization functions in the right environment whereby the needs of all members in the organization are taken care of and employees feel free and as a part of the organization. This in turn result into a culture of unity and strength. How to cite In what circumstances is it appropriate to decentralise decision making?, Papers

Macbeth Essays (703 words) - Characters In Macbeth, Macbeth, Fiction

Macbeth During the Elizabethan Age, Shakespeare was the greatest author and drama writer. He wrote such masterpiece tragedies such as Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Othello. Perhaps the greatest of them all is the story of Macbeth. In the play, the first Thane of Cawdor, Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macbeth, and Macbeth all are considered to have flaws which to a greater or lesser degree is the cause of their downfall. In the second scene of the play you learn that Scotland is in war with Norway. King Duncan has learned that the First Thane of Cawdor was helping out the Norwegians. His assistance cost him his life. For treason, King Duncan ordered the first Thane of Cawdor to be executed and have Macbeth take his title. Though the first Thane of Cawdor was never actually in the play itself, the reader has to take the word of the Thane of Ross he was a traitor. Assisted by that most disloyal traitor The Thane of Cawdor, began a dismal conflict. (I ii 52-53) After Macbeth is given the title of the first Thane of Cawdor, King Duncan decides to visit the successful captain and be a guest at his house. Duncan doesnt know that it is supposed to be Macbeths destiny to become king. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth decide to come up with this plan to kill Duncan in his sleep. Duncan was simply there congratulating Macbeth on his recent accomplishments. He had no idea of the trouble he was getting himself into during his stay at Macbeths. The only real flaw you can give to Duncan is that he should have had someone watching over him like a bodyguard, or that he should have been more suspicious about his hosts. The reason of Macbeths slaughter of King Duncan was the idea that he was the rightful King. The three witches had told him he would be the first Thane of Cawdor before he was given the rank. They also said that he would eventually reign as king. Besides Lady Macbeth who knew about the three witches, the only other person to know about them was Banquo. He automatically was considered a threat to Macbeth. For Banquos issue have I filed my mind, for them the gracious Duncan I have murdered. (III I 65-66) Macbeth is ordering the execution of Banquo. Banquo could have saved himself because he saw that the danger lies ahead for him. Instead he decided to stay and save his son Fleance from death. Lady Macbeth was the real brains of the operation. She was the one who convinced and forced Macbeth to slain the honorable Duncan. The first scene of the last act shows the consequences of her actions. Lady Macbeth becomes crazy. She is not able to live with herself for what she has done. A psyche doctor is brought to examine her but it is to late to help and she kills herself. Macbeth is prepared to defend himself at any cost. He was not prepared to give up the life he had killed for. Macbeth has no chance to win. His men and thanes are battling bravely. The young Siward tries to slain Macbeth but is unsuccessful and is murdered by Macbeth. Later when Macbeth meets Macduff, they go into battle. Painted upon a pole, and underwrit, here may you see the tyrant. (V viii 26-27) I will not yield, to kiss the ground before young Malcolms feet. (V viii 28-29) Macbeth is killed and Malcolm becomes the new King of Scotland. The first Thane of Cawdor, Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macbeth, and Macbeth are all victims in the play. First Thane of Cawdor is killed because of the crime he committed. Since Macbeth is told he is to be king, he decides to kill Duncan. Banquo knew that Macbeth had killed Duncan so he was murdered. Finally at the end of the play, it seems that Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are not thinking clearly. If they did, than Lady Macbeth wouldnt have killed herself and Macbeth wouldnt have fought a needless battle to the death. English Essays

Labor Unions During the Great Depression

Labor Unions During the Great Depression The Great Depression of the 1930s changed Americans view of unions. Although AFL membership fell to fewer than 3 million amidst large-scale unemployment, widespread economic hardship created sympathy for working people. At the depths of the Depression, about one-third of the American workforce was unemployed, a staggering figure for a country that, in the decade before, had enjoyed full employment. Roosevelt and the Labor Unions With the election of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932, government - and eventually the courts - began to look more favorably on the pleas of labor. In 1932, Congress passed one of the first pro-labor laws, the Norris-La Guardia Act, which made yellow-dog contracts  unenforceable. The law also limited the power of federal courts to stop strikes and other job actions. When Roosevelt took office, he sought a number of important laws that advanced labors cause. One of these, the National Labor Relations Act of 1935 (also known as the Wagner Act) gave workers the right to join unions and to bargain collectively through union representatives. The act established the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to punish unfair labor practices and to organize elections when employees wanted to form unions. The NLRB could force employers to provide back pay if they unjustly discharged employees for engaging in union activities. Growth in Union Membership With such support, trade union membership jumped to almost 9 million by 1940. Larger membership rolls did not come without growing pains, however. In 1935, eight unions within the AFL created the Committee for Industrial Organization (CIO) to organize workers in such mass-production industries as automobiles and steel. Its supporters wanted to organize all workers at a company - skilled and unskilled alike - at the same time. The craft unions that controlled the AFL opposed efforts to unionize unskilled and semiskilled workers, preferring that workers remain organized by craft across industries. The CIOs aggressive drives succeeded in unionizing many plants, however. In 1938, the AFL expelled the unions that had formed the CIO. The CIO quickly established its own federation using a new name, the Congress of Industrial Organizations, which became a full competitor with the AFL. After the United States entered World War II, key labor leaders promised not to interrupt the nations defense production with strikes. The government also put controls on wages, stalling wage gains. But workers won significant improvements in fringe benefits - notably in the area of health insurance  and union membership soared.

Additionally, the Spanish language was not prohibited as long as it is used to communicate with a Spanish-speaking customer. In the context of Mary’s case, it can be said that the imposition of the â€Å"English Only Policy† is to prevent misunderstanding between employees and customers. Murray and Bernard mentioned that with the diversity in the workforce today, there is a need to impose a preferred language to ensure effective and comprehensible communication among customers and employees (1). Additionally, Mary’s dismissal is not merely based on her language, but it is based on the idea that she did not use the prescribed language preferred by the company. For this reason, Sears did not violate the law that protects employees against racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination. Based on Title VII, Tucker and Haddad flesh out that the concept of religion, in the juridical context, includes all the religious practices, observances, and beliefs of an individual (217). With this definition, it can be said that religion has a wide scope that accommodating all of the employees’ religious preferences may be difficult. Furthermore, although it is a general rule that employers should not discriminate an employee’s religion, service industries and religious-related organizations are exempted from the limitations prescribed in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Service industries and organizations associated with a particular religion can discriminate an employee’s religion. For instance, the airline industry, in its service-oriented business process, is allowed to disregard the religious practices of their employees and oblige them to work especially when the work is a business necessity. Considering the rationale of the exception, I

Critical Thinking - Inductives & deductive reasoning Essay

Critical Thinking - Inductives & deductive reasoning - Essay Example The argument builds on likelihood of commonness between acquaintances in order to include an additional train that could be common for the two. The premise of this argument is the statement that gives details the close relationship involving the two ladies. The premises try to establish the commonness of the two girls. In this case, the girls are friends and moreover, both of them like fishing and climbing rocks. This argument is inductive because the premises present some evidence to support the truthfulness of the conclusion. Furthermore, nobody can determine its validity or invalidity. Only a comparison can be used to challenge the argument. The conclusion needs not to be certain. According to Teitelbaum & Wilensky (2013), this is a process of reasoning based on one or more statements in order to arrive to a logically certain conclusion. These types of reasoning need to connect premises with conclusion. Deductive reasoning relies on clear and true rules of logic to reach a necessarily true conclusion. In the argument, ‘’ there must be something incorrect with the engine of my truck’’ is the premise that needs to be ratified as true. In deductive logic, this premise will require to be supported with a conclusion that can either be validated or invalidated. In the argument, the conclusion is the fact that the truck’s engine failed to start. In this case, there are two outcomes of the logic: if the car fails to start, it implies that the premise is true, on the other hand, if the engine starts, therefore the premise is untrue. The reasoning illustrated above is a deductive reasoning. This is because the certainty of the conclusion can be established in order to validate or invalidate the premises. In this, someone just requires starting the car’s engine and thus the truth is

TRIZ Problem Solving: Design of Hammer

TRIZ Problem Solving: Design of Hammer Abstract This project introduced innovation in a concept design of hammer which is a tool used to blow (a sudden impact) to an object. Some technical contradictions occurred in the design, which made it difficult to find a solution except compromise. When TRIZ was used in the design, things seemed to get easier. A surprising and almost perfect solution was found, and finally it was put into practice smoothly. Introduction A hammer is a tool that delivers a blow (a sudden impact) to an object. A hammer is basically a force amplifier that works by converting mechanical work into kinetic energy and back. Most hammers are hand tools used to drive nails, fit parts, forge metal, and break apart objects. Hammers vary in shape, size, and structure, depending on their purposes. Hammers are basic tools in many trades. The usual features are a head (most often made of steel) and a handle (also called a helve or haft). A traditional hand-held hammer consists of a separate head and a handle, fastened together by means of a special wedge made for the purpose, or by glue, or both. This two-piece design is often used, to combine a dense metallic striking head with a non-metallic mechanical-shock-absorbing handle. Some hammers are one-piece designs made primarily of a single material. A one-piece metallic hammer may optionally have its handle coated or wrapped in a resilient material such as rubber. Objectives To innovate the design of a hammer to make it more efficient using TRIZ problem solving. To minimize the cost used to buy hammer using TRIZ problem solving. To improve the components of hammer to reduce space consumption by TRIZ problem solving. Problem Statement For years, workers have been struggling to bring different type of tools to their worksite.   One of the main tool used by the construction workers are the hammer. A Hammer is a mechanical tool that delivers a sudden impact to an object. The essential part of hammer is head, a compact solid mass that is able to deliver the blow to the intended target without itself deforming and a handle, the part where the user hold the hammer. Commonly, hammers are used to drive nails, fit parts, forge metal and break apart objects. There are different types of hammers in use, they vary in shape, size and structure. Such hammers are traditional curved claw hammer and Drywall hammer. Traditional claw hammer are used to   drives nails well and removes nails easily with the rocking action of its curved claw while Drywall hammer chops errant bits of drywall and sets nails without breaking through walls paper faces. Hammers are categorized as a heavy type tool thus creating problem for the workers t o bring many types of hammer to their worksite. Inconvenient Variety in the number of hammer needed to complete in a certain type of work causes difficulties to the workers in bringing it to their worksite. As we already know, each hammer has its own function. Hence, workers need to bring each of the type of hammer to complete their project. If it is improved it can ease the workers job in bringing different type of hammer without consuming too much energy. Costly Workers are forced to buy each type of hammer so that they can accomplish their job. This causes extra money to be spent to buy each type of hammer. Thus the total cost of project will be increased gradually. Buying less number of hammer with the same functional would causes the cost to be decreased significantly. This would give the advantage to worker as it will cut the cost to buy a hammer. Space consuming The average size of a hammer is bigger than other tool creates a problem which is in storing it. Each hammer requires a huge size of storage space to be stored and with the variety type of hammer, the needs for bigger size storage increases with the number of hammer. If less spaces are used to store this tool, more other tool can be used to fill the empty spaces. This increases the compatibility of the hammer. However the drawback of using steel as a handle is it is very heavy. So by using 39 parameters matrix, we have decided to choose composite material as the handle. The composite material that we have chosen is graphite fiber reinforced epoxy. This type of handle offers a blend of stiffness, lightweight and durability. These handle also encased in a high polycarbonate resin. The addition of this material around the handle increase shock absorption, improves chemical resistance and offers protection against accidential overstrike thus reduce handle failure. TRIZ technique use the process of abstraction as it main way to solve problem. This means that we need to use TRIZ to determine problem, improving feature, and impact feature and lastly, come up with a solution for the related problem. There are many type of TRIZ process that are available for solving problem. However, for this problem the function analysis tool, the 39 parameters and 40 inventive principles is used. We have concluded that the main problems of a hammer are inconvenient, costly, and space consuming. All of the problems are solved by applying TRIZ technique. The final solution that have been analyzed is by producing an exchangeable hammer head with graphite fiber reinforced epoxy handle. This will encounter all of the problems of the common hammer. So, it can be concluded that TRIZ problem solving can be used to problem better and efficiently. A General to Remember : Francis Marion “Swamp Fox” Essay

â€Å"Come, my boys! Let us go back and we will find the Gamecock. But as for this damned old fox, the devil himself could not catch him!† That was the famous quote by Banastre Tarleton, a British general and soldier, who gave the â€Å"Swamp Fox† his name. Francis Marion was the â€Å"Swamp Fox’s† real name. Marion was born on February 26th 1732, in Goat Field Plantation in Saint Johns Parish, Berkeley County, South Carolina. When Marion was a boy, he set off to sail at the age of 15 but ended up being stranded at sea for a week before him and 7 other crewmembers drifted to shore stated in the online Smithsonian Magazine The Swamp Fox. Marion later joined the South Carolina militia just before his 25th birthday to fight in the French and Indian War, however, during this War; Marion took an interest in the guerrilla fighting technique and became a mastery of irregular warfare and rapid mobility. Francis Marion is an anti-hero because he was humble, used un ruly methods of attack, and was a father to all. One of Francis Marion’s actions that made him an anti-hero was because he was humble. For instance, when he joined the war; he did it to fight for his country. Marion was a man who was a priggish disciplinarian who dressed modestly, abstained from drinking, and forbade his troops from plundering their Loyalist neighbors, said in an article named Francis Marion. He never expected any sort of popularity in return, but many people admired him and his actions anyways. An article from Smithsonian Magazine named The Swamp Fox, has a man named Busik, who has written the introduction to a new edition of Simms’ The Life of Francis Marion, based on facts alone he quotes: â€Å"Marion deserves to be remembered as one of the heroes of the War of Independence.† Not only was his humbleness an anti-hero quality, but also Marion used unruly methods of attack. He would fight in a guerrilla fashion to succeed in the wars he fought in that made him more of an anti-hero. Marion was promoted by the President and became a general under Nathanael Greene in January 20, 1780 as said in the book: Swamp Fox: The life and campaigns of General Francis Marion. Marion was one of the first to ever take on the style of killing the generals or higher leaders first instead of the soldiers like the ‘rules of war’ were. On January 20th, 1780, Francis Marion became promoted to brigadier general under a man named Nathanael Greene, said in the book Swamp Fox: The Life and Campaigns of General Francis Marion. Marion got his nickname from a man named Banastre Tarleton because of his ways for guerrilla warfare and how good he was at them. Tarleton was frustrated with chasing Marion around through Ox Swamp and gave up saying: â€Å"Come, my boys! Lets us go back and we will find the Gamecock. But as for this damned old fox, the devil himself could not catch him!† This was found in the NPS.gov article General Francis Marion. However, despite what he did fighting, he was a father to all. Marion had no children of his own, but treated his nieces and nephews and friends all the same as if he was their father. He cared about them and looked out for them, hence why he would forbid his troops from plundering their Loyalist neighbors, which is again is said in the article Francis Marion. Marion was a father to all; everyone looked up to him and appreciated him for what he did and what he was like. Some people may say that the Swamp Fox wasn’t even a hero, let alone an anti-hero. People think that because of Marion’s guerrilla style way of fighting, he wasn’t a good guy because he went against the ‘rules of war’. With his fatherly ways, people took that as an arrogance thing. That he was stuck up and wanted to treat everyone as if they were younger than him. Others took his humbleness as another form of arrogance and thought of him as disgust. Because of all of this they thought of him as a villain instead of a hero. Though some people may have looked down upon Marion and his actions as a person, the majority of the people who know about him or knew him will say differently. Francis Marion’s ways of being humble, his fighting being an unruly way of attack, and his actions being fatherly, would still make him an anti-hero to all. A day is dedicat ed to Marion for his actions in the wars he has fought in. General Francis Marion Day, which is held on the twenty-seventh day of February, became founded in 2007 said on their official website Revolutionary History, Clarendon Country, SC. The Swamp Fox is a general to never be forgotten for the things he’s done.

The treatment of HIV is left largely unattended. The drugs require financial commitments that many of the people who are at the highest risk cannot afford. While there is an emphasis on the use of educational programs in order to provide information for the use of prevention, there appears to be an undercurrent of neglect for those who have already contracted the virus (African Development Bank. , OECD, 2008). In addition to the perspective that HIV/AIDS is a problem that does not warrant policy consideration, the general attitude towards women must be taken into considerati on as a part of the problem. Female circumcision, as an example, is still a widely held practice within the nation (Shweder, Minow, Markus, 2004, p. The justification of this study is based on the belief that in order to promote change, it is within an awareness of the problem that policies and services can be implemented. The disparity that appears to exist between the policies of public health care and the denial of coverage for antiviral medications provides an opportunity to study the situation from a socioeconomic perspective, a cultural perspective, and a public health care perspective.

Friday Night Lights By Lewis Lapham - 1866 Words

â€Å"At times Odessa had the feel of lingering sadness that many isolated places have, a sense of the world orbiting around it at dizzying speed while it stood stuck in time...300 miles from the rest of the world† (33). Odessans don’t mind the isolation because they have high school football to wrap their lives around. In 1988, H.G. Bissinger moved to Odessa,Texas and had the up close and personal opportunity to study a small southern town and see how high school football affected the lives of its residents. In the same fashion, writer Lewis Lapham studied how sports affect people from all over the nation and came to the conclusion that sports must â€Å"preserve an illusion of perfect innocence.† Lapham’s views can clearly be linked to the†¦show more content†¦After all, the Permian school district gerrymandered the boundary lines in order to get as many black kids to play on their football team as possible. However, they only convinced themselv es of their tolerance. When almost all minorities lived behind the barrier, over the tracks, excluded from white interaction outside of school, it is hard to believe that the love for sports triumphed over racism. On the field, blacks were welcomed for their athletic skill. Off the field, it was back over the tracks where they belonged. Blacks knew what the tracks represented: â€Å"Symbolically and physically, the tracks were still a barrier and still defined an attitude† (92). The school and team integration covered the racism that was still clearly present in Odessa. The former principal of the â€Å"black school† said that â€Å"[t]here s no integration, there is desegregation. There is no integration in this community, the same as any community in America† (98). The townspeople of Odessa know in their hearts that true integration doesn’t exist, but it didn’t matter because the government saw that Permian high school finally became integrated a nd allowed blacks and Mexicans to play on their sacred sports team. In this case, football wasn’t just a game. The integration of the team was a blanket to cover all of the racism and separation. At the end of the day, sports didn’t save the minorities; they had to go back to the rough side of town.
